Gravner, Ribolla, Friuli Venezia Giulia, 2011


Gravner is without doubt one of the greatest ‘orange wine’ producers. The structure (acidity and tannins) of this wine is incredible and in many ways more similar to a red. Typical vinification involves 5 months of maceration on the skins in amphorae that are buried below ground level followed by 6 years in large oak barrels. Amazingly complex wine (orange marmalade, apricots, candied lemon peels and marzipan).
